Dr. Jan Backmann Jan obtained his MSc in chemistry from Moscow University (USSR) and his PhD in Chemistry from Berlin Free University (Germany). Afterwards, he was a postdoctoral researcher and lecturer at Brussels Free University VUB (Belgium). Jan worked as a Scientific Advisor for the international trade association A.I.S.E. in Brussels and as a senior regulatory affairs expert and team leader with an international consultancy as well as with Ciba Specialty Chemicals and BASF. Presently, he is heading the global Chemical Legislation Unit within the corporate SHE department of “Roche” (F.Hoffmann-La Roche Ltd) at the headquarters in Basel, Switzerland.

Dr. Ronald Bock
EMEA Product Stewardship Manager | Chemours International Operations

Dr. Ronald Bock Ronald joined the Regulatory Affairs team at DuPont Chemical Solutions Enterprise in 2005. Prior to his current responsibilities as EMEA Product Stewardship Manager within Chemours, Ronald held the position of Registration Manager for DuPont’s biocide products and EMEA Product Stewardship Manager for the Surface Protection Solution business in the EMEA region.

Prior to DuPont, Ronald worked for four years as a Regulatory Affairs Manager in a consultancy company based in Geneva which specialises in the development and registrations of biotechnology and pharmaceutical products.

Ronald was born in Geneva, Switzerland. He has a PhD in Molecular Biology from the University of Geneva, and has spent many years performing fundamental research both in Switzerland at the University of Geneva and in the US at the University of California, Berkeley.

Bruce Callow
Principal Consultant | TSGE Consulting

Bruce Callow Bruce is an environmental specialist responsible for reviewing scientific data, exposure modelling, preparing regulatory summaries and waivers and providing strategic advice to clients. Prior to joining TSGE Bruce has worked within other regulatory consultancies and has over 20 years’ experience in the risk assessment of plant protection products biocides and industrial chemicals. He began his career at the UK Pesticide Safety Directorate (now CRD) where he represented the UK in the second round of ECCO meetings for environmental fate and devised a 1st Tier exposure model for the calculation of concentrations of pesticides in drainflow. He has also trained industry experts and regulators in Europe and Africa.

Bruce has a degree in Zoology (Animal Ecology) and a Masters degree in Ecotoxicology.

France Capon
Secretary General | European Precious Metals Federation

Dr. France Capon France, for 10 years, worked for the Nickel industry launching the Ni REACH Consortia. She was also in charge of the Chemicals Management policy (e.g. GHS, REACH-like regulation) in and outside the EU. After one year with Albemarle as Public Affairs Advisor, she has been appointed as Secretary General of the European Precious Metals Federation EPMF hosting the Precious Metals and Rhenium Consortium (PMC). She is deeply involved in Eurometaux (the European association of the non-ferrous metals industry). France is also chair of the REACH Authorisation and Restriction Platform, co-chair of the Data sharing Task Force and active to the REACH Forum and other multi-metallic exchange platforms. She is also representing at ECHA EPMF, an accredited stakeholder. She has a master in history of art and a master in oriental languages.

Igor Danilov
Counsel | Dentons Europe LLP

Igor Danilov Igor is a counsel for Dentons’ in the Brussels office and a member of the EU Competition, Regulatory and Trade practice groups. Since 2004, Igor has extensive experience in international trade law and regulatory legislation in the EU and various jurisdictions worldwide. His practice areas include; international trade, customs, and regulatory laws of the EU, Russia/EAEU and the CIS as well as WTO laws, practices and trade policy. Igor has substantial experience in advising corporate clients and national governments on various aspects of: regional trade agreements and bilateral trade issues, international public law matters, multilateral trade negotiations, trade related aspects of EU competition law and policy, GSP regimes, rules of origin, customs classification and facilitation, SPS and TBT topics.

Since 2008, Igor also focuses on various aspects of the EU and Russian/CIS regulatory legislation, including on REACH/CLP, EAEU/CU Technical Regulations, food contact, product liability and compliance with national technical regulations and safety standards. Igor is admitted to practice in both Belgium (list B) and Russia.

Richard Dubourg
Director & Owner | The Economics Interface Ltd

Richard Dubourg Richard Dubourg is an economist with 25 years of experience gained in academic research, central government, private consultancy and European regulation. He is an expert in cost-benefit-analysis, impact assessment and evaluation, socio-economic analysis and non-market valuation. He has worked across a wide range of policy areas, with a particular focus on environmental issues, including water and air quality management, risk and safety and public health. For the last five years he has specialised in the economics of chemicals regulation, first as the coordinator for socioeconomic analysis and restrictions at ECHA , where he provided the major economics input into ECHA work on authorisation, and since as a consultant, contributing to a dozen applications for authorisation, guidance projects for the aerospace and metals recycling sectors, and acting as ECHA’s Senior Economic Advisor. He has published widely in academic journals and books, and has presented at conferences around the world

Irantzu Garmendia
Technical and Regulatory Affairs Manager | European Association of Chemical Distributors, FECC

Irantzu Garmendia Irantzu is an Organic Chemist by training with a postgraduate in Chemical engineering, Toxicology and Occupational Health and Safety. She has more than 15 years of professional experience mainly in the field of Regulatory Affairs and Product Stewardship.

At FECC, Irantzu is responsible for the Safety, Health and Environment (SHE) Committee dealing with among others REACH, CLP, The Biocidal Products Regulation and the Life Science Committee who deal with Pharma, Cosmetics, Food and Feed Legislation.

As the Technical and Regulatory Affairs manager, she is the direct contact with the European Institutions and the industry stakeholders. Irantzu participates and contributes, as the representative of FECC, to the meetings and workshops organised by these institutions.

Marianne Hedberg
Expert Environmental Issues | The Swedish Construction Federation

Marianne Hedberg Marianne gained a BSc in Biology and Geology from the University of Stockholm in 1985. She has gained a lot of experience from environment and sustainability related matters and has previously worked with these topics in the construction business and local environment authorities. Marianne currently works as an expert of environmental matters at the Swedish Construction Federation and deals with handling and the phasing out of hazardous substances from construction materials. She also handles questions on resource efficiency, waste, ground remediation and biodiversity.

Dr. Craig Kelly
Senior Consultant | TSGE Consulting

Dr. CRaig Kelly Craig has extensive experience of the REACH regulation. He has also worked in industry with the US EPA on IRIS priority chemicals. He can provide guidance and strategy advice as well as having experience of data requirements and waivers. He has experience of Chemical Safety Reports, exposure scenario development, regulatory issues in the supply chain and how complex mixtures fit within REACH.

Prior to joining TSGE, Craig worked for seven years with INEOS, as Product Steward and REACH Manager acting as the main coordinator for the lead registrant registrations for nitriles products and catalysts. This included SIEF coordination, consortium work and active involvement in industry sector groups. Previously, he worked in the regulatory group for BASF Biocides, following more than ten years within UK contract laboratories, as a study director and a laboratory manager in ecotoxicology.

Craig is a graduate in Agriculture and Environmental Sciences, has a PhD in Pesticide Formulation Efficacy and is presently studying for an MSC in Applied Toxicology.

Dr. Anna Lennquist
Toxicologist | ChemSec

Dr. Anna Lennquist Anna holds a PhD in ecotoxicology from the University of Gothenburg, Sweden. Her research focus was the effects on fish physiology from chemicals intended for use in antifouling paints, as part of risk evaluation. Anna has also taught university courses. She holds a degree in journalism and has a strong interest in communicating scientific findings to a wider audience. Anna joined ChemSec in 2011. She has since focused on substitution, first in the development of the SUBSPORT project. Since 2013 she has become project manager the Marketplace from 2016.

Dr. Anna Rowbotham

Dr. Anna Rowbotham Anna has extensive experience in toxicology, exposure modelling and human health risk assessment. She has previous experience as a consultant toxicologist for LGC Ltd, a risk assessment specialist for Syngenta and a risk assessor for MRC Institute for Environment and Health. Prior to joining TSGE, Anna gained experience in leading research on probabilistic human exposure modelling and was a senior toxicologist and human health risk assessment specialist at the UK Health and Safety Laboratory. She was also responsible for managing projects, providing technical support and advice to clients and to the Chemicals Regulation Directorate (CRD).

Anna has a degree in Biochemistry and a PhD in Neurotoxicology.

Simon Tilling

Simon Tilling Simon is recognised as a leading environmental lawyer and advises on all aspects of UK and EU environmental law and regulation. He is dual-qualified enabling him to practice throughout England, Wales and Scotland. Simon advises on operational compliance, regulatory investigations, enforcement and criminal defence, regulatory appeals, tribunal hearings, judicial review and environmental civil claims. Simon also advises on product stewardship and international supply chain compliance for European regimes including the REACH Regulation, the Biocidal Products Regulation and the WEEE and RoHS regimes.

In 2013, Simon was elected to the council of the United Kingdom Environmental Law Association for a four year term.

Ying Zhu Ying Zhu holds a PhD from University of Helsinki on biochemistry and a Master of Science from Aalto University (Helsinki, Finland) in Economics. She has worked in various management positions in industry for more than 10 years. Her unique educational background and work experience enable her to act as a leading expert in the area of REACH authorization, having worked and supervised more than 10 authorisation projects. Her extensive work in both Authorisation and Advocacy Support has enabled her to build an extensive professional network with good working relationship with relevant authorities and multiple industry associations. Ying has advised companies from four different continents on REACH compliance issues since 2008. In addition, she also has in-depth knowledge on global chemical regulations and compliance issues.
